  • Here's a question I've seen a lot in comments: OK, I'm accelerating up but then shouldn't someone on the other side of the globe fall off? No, here's why: Either watch again from 8:28 or read what I've written below... Spacetime is curved - it curves the opposite direction on the other side of the Earth. Neither us on this side of the Earth nor they on the other side are changing our spacial coordinates - we're not moving up, they're not moving down - Earth isn't flying into one of us. BUT we both ARE accelerating. In curved spacetime you have to accelerate just to remain stationary. The traditional definition of acceleration is something changing its velocity. In general relativity you have to embrace a new definition of acceleration: it means deviating from a geodesic - not going on a straight line path through spacetime. Near the Earth a geodesic is a parabola so unless you're moving in a parabolic arc (like on a zero-g plane) you are accelerating. This definition is the same as the old one so if you're accelerating in deep space then your velocity is changing. *BUT*... if you are near a large mass you are in curved spacetime, now acceleration your velocity is changing. You can stay stationary relative to Earth's surface and still be accelerating. This is because your acceleration should be measured not relative to the Earth's surface but relative to free-falling objects - they are inertial observers. Imagine this - I'm in deep space and I make horizontal rows and rows of stationary golf balls. Then I hop in my rocket and accelerate up through them. Just think about what that looks like. Now my rocket is back on Earth just sitting there. I freeze time for a sec and make horizontal rows and rows of golf balls up into the atmosphere. Now unfreeze time. What do you see? If you just look at the golf balls and the rocket ship it looks the same as the situation in space where the golf balls were stationary and the rocket was accelerating. Einstein's point was the golf balls have the better claim as the "stationary" thing since their experience is just like the golf balls in deep space - no forces experienced. The rocket on Earth is just like the rocket in space. It feels a force and hence an acceleration.

I think its because of the air/enclosed atmosphere on earth...and a free-falling person would interact with that "material" and it would feel that opposite friction from the air like a force against their skin & hair, etc... I've had to watch this video several times & surf thru some comments to get a lil bit of perspective. It’s a dizzying topic, but very interesting nonetheless!

The net Coulomb's force is always an attractive force which is proportional to the product of total charges within the two atoms. Total charges equal to mass. Without charges, there is no mass. This is the mechanism of universal gravitational force. Two magnets at a distance always attract each other with a magnetic force, even the same poles repel each other. Same principle. All matters are made from atoms, all atoms are formed from charges atom building blocks. Charged atom building blocks only carry electric force/electrostatic force, therefore all forces matters carried are the electric force in different configurations. In reality, there are no force lines and force fields. All made up word puzzles. The magnetic force is a misinterpretation of the circular electric force. The field is a misinterpretation of force. Fields and forces must coexist with the matters/carriers. There is no magnetic field around a current-carrying wire or coil. There are iron powders around a current-carrying wire or coil. The current in the wire induces nearby iron powders to become small magnets and connected together and form into a circle around the current is the precise mechanism. The so-called magnetic force is in fact circular electrostatic force carried by a circular current or concentric dipole rings in the magnet.

  • Ok the use of space time now that works by time as in a clock so in theory in space you can travel at any speed including light or faster. What would you see out of the windows? well things would go fast past the ship? But no you will still see the objects go pass at a normal speed you would see walking driving flying on a planet. Reason you will see things for longer in space. a large light object will be seam for longer like a brightest star you can see in the sky is light years away but you can still see it. But what you are seeing is in that stars past. Now when you see a man falling what can he feel well for one speed you can see landscape changing looking down up or to the side. Then there is air pressure like squeezing a balloon the closer to the ground the less pressure because it moves away as in your weight. So you would think the air pressure would save you but NO. Just like a balloon you press harder the quicker the air moves out. So why am I saying this well space has no pressure the feeling of witlessness is completely different. Now if in water you can move like in space sort of but there are many things different even then. As force of water to your arms treading water or swimming. So in affect the idea of feeling weightless when falling is not quite right. Now there is only o9ne other way to feel weightless and that is? Well a steep dive in an aircraft. All others including a wind machine used to train sky divers uses pressure of air. Try a trampoline you will get the same effect but you will still notice changes. This is why Gravity works and is a type of force and it can be measured. They even can measure gravity affects in space but why does it exist? Well it is there as pressure to make land mass or frozen ice or life like humans would not exist and we would just be flouting along water would be floating too. so to say it time bends and not a real force is a bit wrong. So if in space you can float around but does you mass make objects smaller come towards you? I think an object could be affected by you floating in space a small one though I hope for an experiment on this happens.

  • So this means that Earth is not an inertial frame of reference since it is accelerating head on to the free falling guy that is an inertial frame of reference. Now I'm confused. Having two free falling guys, on opposite sides of the Earth, we say that the Earth is accelerating head on towards both of them. How do we reconcile that?   • Gravity is not force but we can create artificial gravity through force what we need is to apply force to material X which our turbine comes into place basically with A power on our engine we can pull the material close to the turbine therefore if material X is a human he can generate energy and move his mass away from the force of the engine of course we need multiple engines or one massive we also need a specific "floor" for the air to go through and cycle to apply force to our body no air=no mass, nomass= no AIG It would be too noisy for sure but it would make many things simpler for people living in space stations in the future

I understand that in curved space time you need to accelerate to remain stationary but I don’t understand where does that acceleration come from. Why don’t we match speed with the one of the Earth?   • Now please make video "Why gravity IS a force and space-time does not exist" and do justice to poor Einstein. It is documented that Einstein did NOT support the geometric interpretation of GR you are proposing here. In fact, his "leap" was MUCH more radical. And here is why: For Einstein there were only measurable physical interactions compounded in actual physical events. Nothing more. Nothing less. Correct description of these events have to have priority over abstract concepts or intuitions. But there was a problem. A HUGE problem. A problem everyone saw, but no one really understood before Einstein. The constancy of speed of light as predicted by electro-dynamics. So what did Einstein understand that nobody before him did? Einstein understood that the descriptions at the time were not purely descriptions of physical properties--but there was something in there that seemed intuitive to the everyday lad, but was utterly flawed. In there were the ideas of "space" and "time". In the formulas, they were just parameters for evolution, for describing the dynamics--but what are they physically? People knew that this was an open question, but they did not question their strong humand-minded intuition. They still granted space and time the benefit of the doubt. They still hoped to find some absolute property justifying this use of "time" and "space" for describing the dynamics of physcial objects. Not so with Einstein. Einstein cast aside his human intuition and dove into a physical world where only events and physical interactions rule. And, in a first step, he reduced time and space to what it really is: a way to talk about comparisons of events. And the only valid physical measuring device to make such comparisons--light! The only thing that has a speed EVERY observer agrees on--light! So if you want to give meaning to two things happening "at the same" time--you have to use light. If two light signals hit you from two events simultaneously ("at the same time, we say"), those two events emitted those signals simultaneously for you! Every observer agrees on the light signals hiting you simultaneously--because that is the real, measurable physical world. Every observer agrees on how the light was emitted and that it traveled from its source to you AFTER it was emitted--because that is the real, measurable physical world. But they only hit you simultaneously. The same light signal will hit another intertial observer at different times. One signal will hit him first ("sooner, we say"), the other one after that ("later, we say"). These are are the physical realities. The "when" of each event happening is merely a local convention, it has no physical meaning to itself. It is just a conventional parameter to describe the order of physical events. Space and time are not "relative". Space and time are not at all! They are just short-hand conventions for "this event happened after that event". This was Einstein's first leap. A leap of abstraction beyond the most fundamental intuitions about how the world is ordered. His second leap was conceptually a LOT easier, but mathematically a lot harder. Conceptually, the next step is also a little odd: You are right in the video but for an important detail--he noticed that a CONSTANT gravitational field cannot be detected by a free falling observer. This means that LOCALLY (at every event) a constant gravitationial field is as good as no gravitational field. Hence, LOCALLY, there is no difference between an intertial observer and an observer uniformly accelerated by gravity. But this means, if you are small enough, no matter how fiercly gravity pulls at you, no matter how greatly the gravitational force changes along your path--you will observe the same physics. So, as before, you need a convention to describe the order of the world around you and you use light to do it. But to make this valid for all observers and being able to translate between observers you now have to consider the light AND the gravity that pulls at you. And the way you make this work is encoded in the formulas of general relativity. And what do the formulas tell you? That there is mass and energy and real, physical interaction, REAL forces, but you can still describe it using conventions of "space" and "time" IF you change conventions along with the gravitational forces. When the gravitational forces change, you have to change your convention (your "metric field") for "space" and "time" accordingly and this is how you interpret the gravitational field itself as a curved "space-time", yet, it remains a real physical field with real physical forces.

When he uses the explanation of "feeling" or not feeling an attractive force, he is ignoring the fact that human being evolved on the Earth and are biologically accustomed to the force of the Earth's gravity. Gravity is a property of matter that is directly proportional to the mass of the object. It is the gravity of the matter in our solar system that shaped its development and is responsible for its current form. On Earth, the planet provides the dominant gravitational force for all objects within its influence. Derek's assumption of curved space-time is nothing more than an expression of the influence that an object exerts upon the gravitational properties of other masses. The "curve" he speaks of is a perceptual expression of the parabolically increasing force that occurs as an object moves into the range of influence of another mass. The mass of the universe creates an orbital motion of all objects based on the distances between each mass collection. It is the reason that our galaxy has a spiral shape with a massive black hole at the center. That black hole attracts all objects in the galaxy to it, but in a spiral trajectory. It will also attract other galactic masses in the universe based on the distances between them.

  • I discovered most of this on my own doing my buisness on my toilet a month back but i also discovered that we are on this planet due to centrifugel "force" due to the rotation of us around the sun and the earth rotating around the axis thats one of the things that got me started on this subject. And that part with the falling man off the roof what that means is that the man is its own celestial body in space and time and is still in motion but the apperance of falling is how fast and long the eart will take to collide with the man on impact and BAM slam. So yes technically there is no gravitational force.

  • I think you feel weightless because of your vestibular system (system that makes you feel balanced) will be giving signals in the opposite direction of which you are falling.Just to make you feel good. Falling would feel very different if this system wouldn't do anything, you'd feel very heavy. I noticed something like this with my new VR headset, I just sat in my chair, playing a game in which I was jumping about 2m down. My whole body braced itself and it made me feel very light and nauseous. Even though I was just sitting in my chair and didn't move.

    • Pretend you're pedaling a bicycle at a constant speed and not turning your wheel at all. There is a bowl-shaped ditch ahead of you, and you are about to fall into its outside edge. - If your speed is high enough, you'll escape it with no problem (although it might put you off your course a little bit.) - If your speed is too low, you'll spiral toward the center of the ditch until you crash or stop in the center. - If your speed is just right, you'll end up circling the ditch over and over again until you stop pedaling. In this case, you are orbiting the center of the bowl - going slow enough that you can't escape, but fast enough that you aren't falling further into the ditch. The moon is the bicycle, and the bowl-shaped ditch is the "gravity well" caused by Earth bending space-time. The moon wants to move in a straight line, but it is moving in a circle (technically, an ellipse) because it partially fell into the space-time ditch caused by Earth. See 6:09 in the video; although this model has its limitations, it's helpful for grasping concepts like this.

  • You're right, gravity is not a force, it is non-existent. Maybe start learning about buoyancy and density. Phenomena which have been demonstrated and proven in reality by means of the scientific method instead of a theory based on philosophical grounds and consensus.

  • Wait..so if we’re being pushed through space time by the earth’s mass, shouldn’t time move slower is space? Black holes are literally holes in space time? They move stuff to another dimension of space time? Are we just beings moving through space (x axis) and time (y axis)? Wouldn’t that mean when we move away from other objects, the speed/slope of time moves too? So the ultimate question he poses is, are we moving against time or against gravity? Wouldn’t it just be both, because the speed of time (y axis) depends on the space (x axis) a relative object has, its gravitational field/force?

    • "Shouldn't time move slower in space?" Yes. Whether time moves slower or faster is a matter of your frame of reference, but you should look up "time dilation." In fact, even on Earth, two identical clocks will lose/gain time relative to each other if one is on a mountain and the other is at sea level. "Black holes are literally holes in space time?" No, not really. Black holes are objects, just like planets. The problem is, the warping of spacetime around the object is so extreme that we can't really fully explain it right now. When described mathematically, we get numbers that approach infinity, and infinity doesn't work in physics.
