Did I expect TOO MUCH from the Surface Duo?

It's been a few years since Microsoft made a phone, but it seems like they stop fighting and joined Google's Android OS. Do you think the Surface Duo will be enough to make Microsoft a major player against the likes of Samsung and Apple?

  • This concept is cool but the poor performance with SD 855 and touching once screen collapsing the keyboard on the other... Plus, the device's internals are not balanced at all. I know that this is a first-gen device but even first-gen Galaxy Fold had much less trouble going for it. Yikes.

  • I was expecting a lot more from them. I like the basic concept but really can't get behind this. IMHO the screen aspect ratio is just wrong for this. Pen support should have been a standard feature and this thing should come with one. I would not expect to be able to do two things at the same time on both screens, but I'd expect that the keyboard wouldn't close on one screen when you touch the other.

  • So clunky! An awful execution! The Windows Phone was a quite good platform, but was released too late to be relevant, so now MS is in despair to get a mobile device hitting the masses or corp users, sorry to say, is too late Microsoft!

  • I don't understand people's dislike of Bing and Edge. I have been using them exclusively for five years and they have met every need. I have a coworker who cringes when i use Bing. But when i showed him some of its features, he thought that they were pretty interesting. And after he bashed Edge for not having some feature that Chrome has (cached websites), i proved him wrong by simply opening the Settings menu and activating the feature within Edge. And i have done the same thing with Bing to prove that it works just fine.

  • @8:47 and it's mostly controlled with android native interfaces wait until your mind starts to fade as you get old or your disabled and didn't choose to learn to different ecosystems both a laptop os and some other major brand interface as it changes and updates all the time. This is precisely why windows phone was good the controls for both had been put together into one. Now we would have to find a trainer phone to get used to how we interface with things we need on a daily basis.

  • If third party developers had adopted support for Windows phone, I firmly believe it would still be a viable alternative today. Compared to iOS and Android, it was MUCH more polished, more stable, and had some really cool features when compared to rivals during the same time period. In fact, I still have my HTC 8X, and sometimes I boot it up just to play around with it. And even today, it still feels snappy, still feels more advanced than either iOS or Android, and really makes me wish it had survived.

  • This product is straight trash. Poor reception, poor connectivity, software bugs, charging port will crack, if you buy to test it out do not do so through AT&T. After the 14 days, you will be stuck in purgatory with a poorly designed piece of beautiful crap because Microsoft will only give you the same piece of crap over and over again while under warranty. Meanwhile, you have to deal with wasted money on skins and screen protectors and time of switching phones (7-10 business days without a phone if you don't have another one laying around) time of dealing with pitiful customer service and time of redownloading apps and contacts... Trust me folks, I thought this product was the bees knees after I figured out the functionality of it. But you can only drop so many calls, deal with not being able to make calls in normal places you should because of the poor antenna, or deal with the frustration of the poor Bluetooth and wifi connectivity before you want to pull your hair out. Stay away from the device. Wait for the next one maybe...this product shouldn't be anyone's daily driver especially for $1500! It is a ball of sh!t. And this is coming from a Microsoft Surface fan boy who has pretty much bought every Surface device in the past 5 years. That ended with this phone and the poor customer service in dealing with it. Oh and the camera will drive you absolutely INSANE!!!

Got a Nokia Lumia off Amazon for $80, man, I even loved that phone. IMO, buttery smooth operation, and a pretty intuitive UI. CLEARLY this dork, who calls himself a "Reviewer", just wanted to put this device on the table and simply start making fun of it INSTEAD of trying to give an un-biased review of form, function and features that maybe we would derive something out of . But his tainted-immature and lack of expertise approach was to simply throw down a smack-attack on both MS and the Duo - THANKS BUT NO THANKS - MORON! Hard to understand how you could possibly have that many Subs if more of your videos are of this variety - PURE LAME SHIT Again, stopped viewing your garbage - Does anyone ever have praise anymore for companies taking the initiative and RD will-power to try and come up with innovative and useful devices? Common sense should serve that while new form factors may not be perfect or have every cutting edge feature and certainly may not be for everyone, they are EXACTLY what they are! PURPOSE BUILT DEVICES!! Form over function and function over form - it's always what best suits YOU as an individual. We Should at least be thankful these companies are trying hard to come up with something other than simply another flagship of the month Slab phone. Microsoft Duo - Samsung Fold - Z fold2 - Z Flip - Motorola RAZR - LG Wing - and a few other companies to mention... I WAS going to purchase the Duo, but as a tech-savvy power user, I knew the form factor wasn't more of my style of use, so I passed on that. I did however purchase the Z Fold 2 - I have No Regrets. First, it's a POWERHOUSE - 12GB Memory for my Multitasking and SnapDragon 865+ kill it ! I can say, it's HEAVY (it's essentially 2 phones) and you know when its in your pocket. But that's about the worst I can say about it. As a POWERUSER - I know why I bought it, FOR THE FOOTBALL FIELD SIZED SCREEN!! hahahaha When I open it - there is nothing on ANY phone more satisfying! THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT IT!! So it is what it is.! But this reviewer?? He is a fucking JOKE - LAMMER Get real or get lost!

  • Windows Phone was awesome. For anyone curious, let me document my experience: FAIR WARNING - this turned out to be an article. my bad. I hope you find it interesting. I daily drove a Nokia Lumia 1520 "Phablet" for ~2 years, and for the time, it was the best smartphone experience on the market. I believe it was Nokia's last official flagship before they were bought out by Microsoft. How did I come to do this you ask? Well, I was sick of android's nagging and shady permission requests among other things and I was sick of apple and itunes being so locked down and unintuitive. So, being the maverick that I am, I decided to go for the Windows nerd phone that nobody liked. For me, the OS was more fluid and visually attractive than ios or android, which, at the time I had all three. I could get to any app or contact in no less than three taps and a swipe (I counted). And the pictures you see online of the operating system dont do it justice as you could customize the heck out of it, unlike being stuck with a static app grid. The User interface and camera were amazing. I still miss having a dedicated shutter button, and Nokia's camera app gave me as much minute control of my pictures as I have with my actual cameras with regards to manual focus and zoom, to this day, that camera app is still better than Apple's. And videos were superior as well, not only in terms of high definition video quality(i believe it was one of the first phones to be able to record 4k video though I may be mistaken), but also audio. The device had something like five microphones, so audio playback on recorded videos would fool me into thinking I was at the place I recorded the footage from if I had headphones on and closed my eyes. It was absolutely crazy. By default they system blocked ads on all of its apps, so no commercials on youtube or twitch or anything (sorry Linus n' friends). There was also a built in FM radio that literally was a life saver during hurricanes and floods. Also, the speaker was notably (freakishly) loud and clear, so much so that I could hear the phone from the opposite end of a large house. You hear people praise the zune, well this was the zune on steroids, and my music wasnt tied to Android, or iTunes. Accessing and transferring my files (music, photos, movies, etc.) was a simple process of plugging the phone into my pc and treating it as though it were a portable hard drive with a typical windows file system. APPS???? - Honestly, and contrary to what people reported, it had all the apps I needed and I consider myself to be unable to breathe without sucking oxygen from my cell phone once every five minutes. It had just about everything but snapchat, which I couldnt give two poos about. Little did the mainstream public know, but there was this enthusiastic little underground subculture of developers for windows phone that basically made third party versions of any official apps that the Windows store was lacking. Surprisingly, a lot of those third party apps were vastly superior to, and more fully featured than the official apps. All of which could be found on the official windows app store. Even with that in consideration, the OS was SOLID and never gave me a single glitch or hiccup. This also might come as a shock, but early Cortana was amazing on that thing too. It somehow knew when I was leaving the house to go to an appointment noted on my calendar, she would wake up while I was pulling out of the driveway and tell me what traffic would be like, and how long I had to get to my destination without me prompting the phone. It confounds me when I see reviewers mention Windows Phone. They always make the canned side eyed glance and frown like someone farted in the room. Not a single journalist/tech reviewer gave it a serious study outside of a baby sized handful. The echo chamber is a sad reality sometimes. For me, It was a unique pleasure to daily drive that phone for the almost 2 years that I had it. Sure, technology has since gotten better, but I havent experienced ANY smartphone as monumentally impressive as my Nokia 1520 with the windows phone OS. Today youd look at my iPad Pro, Airpods Pro and iPhone 12 Pro and call me a corporate capitalistic commie socialist fashionista militant homo-hetero xenophobic oleophobic right wing leftist Apple fanboy latex pony-prance man (which is an acceptable label for someone who owns all pro gear) ........HOWVEVER, deep down a large part of me wishes I was still able to use Windows OS the way it was intended. P.S. If you guys are hiring Windows Phone experts, give me a holler. =P I think I am the only one left alive after the great phone wars.
