The Oilers Finally Have Forward Depth

30 252 Näkymät

I wanted to look at the Oilers to answer some of the comments regarding where I had them on the power rankings. If anything, they may be too low. Goaltending is the unknown factor.

  • Team has decent depth at D and decent goaltending. Lack of depth scoring from the bottom 6 really killed them against the Hawks. McDavid and Drai contributed over 2/3 of their offence against the Hawks, that's crazy.

  • I don’t think there is anyway larsson is a 3rd pair, I think he will play with barrie on the 2nd pair as the stay at home guy to allow barrie to play more offensively, then nurse and bear will play top line and either jones or laggeson will play 3rd pair with russel! Also I think you do a great job with these videos dont let a few dislikes effect your opinions!

  • Nuge and Ennis will be switched tho. Ennis is a real speedy boy and good for McDavid. And Nuge/Drai/Yama was such a powerhouse line and that's what was missing in the playoffs and why Oilers lost. It was only allowed to play once and it did good things in that few minutes but it was too late by that point

I look at that board and don't see forward depth, and what should bother fans more is lack of defensive depth, and the Larsson meme still being on the team.

They start caring too much about the numbers and change based off a few negative people. I miss the shannon that didn't care as much about what people thought. • The Oilers would be smart NOT to pencil in Puljujarvi for top minutes right away... I think that's what hurt him (and them) the first time. Start with Kassian up there and see how it goes. Don't think anyone could seriously argue the fact that they improved their F depth... but their D and G are virtually untouched, you can even say downgraded if you consider losing Klefbom to be bigger than adding Barrie.

    • Yep 100% Jones I believe is getting a shot to prove himself and be a top 4 this year. Russel will be on third pair with larsson and rotate out for one of the three rookies lagesson, bouchard, broberg depending on who has the best camp/preseason. Bear and nurse are gonna be the top pair and this is the year nurse can also prove he can play a top role with klefbom out. Making the lines as nurse-bear, jones-barrie, Russel-larsson, 7th defensman rotating in.

  • I agree that the Oilers *should* be good. But they always seem to find a way to mess it up when they should be good. They looked like they should be good after the 2017 playoff run... then they fell out of the playoffs for 2 years. They looked like they should make the playoffs (round of 16) this year and a pandemic comes around to make sure they don't. I know 2020 was different and maybe they can be excused for losing a 5-game series to an experienced team, but it's frustrating to watch them nearly make the playoffs for just the second time in over a decade and it somehow still falls apart. I can't be confident that this team will live up to any expectations... whenever I'm confident, they fall back.

  • Shannon I don't disagree that the end goal is getting Puljujarvi on McDavid's wing, but I don't think he starts there on opening night. For one, despite looking great in Finland, he hasn't proven to be a top level NHL talent yet. Is Kassian a first line player? Good god no. He does, however, have a good amount of chemistry with McDavid, and is excellent at distributing the puck to him. There's no need to break that up to "try out" Puljujarvi right away. Like what they did with Yamamoto last year, start Puljujarvi on the third line (with a better centerman too, Kyle Turris vs Jujar Khaira), and see how he looks in his first games. If he excels, there's no issue swapping him and Kassian going forward. If he takes a bit to find his feet, his confidence isn't crushed out of the gate.

    LamnackenLamnackenUukausi sitten
  • You said "Hawks" and I just snapped off and thought I would write my feelings for some reason but here it is: The problem with the Hawks is that they're NOT in a "rebuild mode" - it's something way different than that... They're in a "phase them out mode" - and you know what? Toews looks at it like it's his last chance, or that his time is limited to win another Cup - and as a Hawks fan he's right and wrong at the same time ..... The only question I would purpose to ask Toews is "would you rather be Joe Thornton or Johnathan Toews ?"...... Yea, if I could ask that kid one question it would be "would you rather be Marcel Dionne?" .... I mean is Toews oblivious to the FACT that Dach is his replacement and that he's going to be an elite 3rd line player one day?... You know - like Bryan Trottier??? ..... Oh and don't get me wrong Toews will be an ELITE 3rd line center when he's 35, but given his sense of entitlement he probably will never accept that role ..... I mean it's clear he has the whole "If I can't win I'm going home" attitude.... Perhaps Toews is the problem? Imagine if the Hawks won no Cups, would he still be a Blackhawk? probably not - besides if Bill Wirtz was alive in 2008 he would have traded Toews for some obedient vets on their last legs that just want to claim they were "Blackhawks"..... Look there is so much wrong with the Hawks right now but their "leader" has lost his damn mind ..... His opinion is absolutely 100% valid but so is mine... I mean this dude may as well be criticizing himself.... IDK who mentors Toews, but whomever they are needs to sit his enraged ego down and have a talk over a beer or something.... I mean it's absolutely plausible that Toews IS THE REASON why the Hawks have fallen..... I'm sorry about this Hawks post but for some reason I just snapped when I heard "Blackhawks"

It's not like he's getting a giant bump in pay unless he has a really good season. Which he might considering he was top 5 in scoring league-wide in the games that he played with Leon but he'll still be affordable.
