Dirtiest Car Ever! First Wash in 20 Years Lost Pontiac Trans Am Rare 455 HO

This has been one of my pet-preservation-projects over the past few months. I wanted to create what I feel would be a fun "TV show for FIworld". This was shot over 9 days, 1200+ individual clips, and obviously a ton of car detailing disaster work. For whatever reason, the idea of rescuing or "preserving" a car for someone else to enjoy and rebuild is incredible satisfying. Anyhow, this is actually one of the dirtiest cars I've ever worked on which created a few interesting paint washing problems. The paint was so rough from sun exposure that the dirt was incredibly challenging to clean or remove from the surface of the paint. Likewise, Joe told me later that he has a few extra body panels in his garage that he and Buddy can use for the rust repair stage of the restoration. This was definitely the first wash in 20 years, but well worth the effort. Hope everyone enjoys! -Larry

  • As always love your videos. The T/A was my favorite car ever. I'm 52 and my first car was a 1980 Indy Pace Car T/A and then I had a 79 Bandit. I'm always on the lookout for these cars and the other day I was driving in my neighborhood and I caught a glimpse of a T/A out of the corner of my eye, I pull over and see it is a 1979 10th Anniversary outside with a 1993 T/A inside (not a big fan of that style) I wait and then I walk down the driveway and call out and the owner comes out and I ask if he wants to sell, he does but as the conversation gets deeper I can see he wants more money than I want. He tells me the 10th WS6 4-speed car has a real history of pacing the actual race. The car was sitting in the garage since 94 and this was the first sun it has seen since, it was in very good condition 4 spd with CAITNOP in the windshield, as an avid car maniac myself owning around 18 Mustangs, Foxes, Shelby's, GT350, Cobras, Hellcat, Scat packs, 7 SRT GC's and currently a 21 Mach 1 on order to be built in a couple weeks. I'm also a firefighter that when I was working 24 hrs and it was slow I was known to detail my cars for 20 of those hours, lol. Anyway, I told him since I love these cars and I am good with eBay I would help him take pics and list for him but DO NOT WASH the "barn find" dirt as a selling point OR the only other guy I know who can clean this car is AMMO. I'm going to stop by this weekend to give your info, I hope he calls.

  • Thank you for helping out regular folks who dream of restoring classics. It’s been a very rough year for many Americans and restoring a car is even harder now than before because so many people lost jobs, money, and loved ones. Currently my dad and I are getting ready to replace the engine in our project car and we’re very excited as we’ve had the car for 3 years and we haven’t really been able to drop money in it

  • I dont know who gets off by sending and crushing/scrapping vintage machinery and vehicles, It makes me so sad to see amazingly heavy overbuilt machines, tools and classics scrapped like they are a dime a dozen. Even though most of the time, the time and labor that would be involved in refurbishing and restoring these items isnt practical and the money that would have to go into it just doesnt make sense but there is always, ALWAYS someone who will do it. I would say that this car might be a little to far gone because of all the rust in the rear and the dents.

  • I still have my high school car I bought in 1980, a 1976 Trans Am 455. It hasn't run since 1985 since it became illegal in California after the emissions law was passed. I had put a carefully rebuilt balanced and blueprinted 1967 GTO 400 engine in it after the 455 had some major issues. That's what made it not be able to pass emissions. I still have the original 455 block and have another with 4 bolt mains. If I get the time one day, I'll restore it.

And seemingly completely oblivious to the fact that there wouldn't have even been a single metric sized fastener, anywhere on that entire, model year 1975, American car.

  • Who has the soul to scrap a classic car, in a quite good condition like that? Once we have found a '92 Mini, but police was involved. We stepped on their toes day after day, for 6 years. We visited this car like the cemetery, and one day, we found it vandalized. After 10(!) years, the owner of the property called, that the police closed the case. (post office robbery, arrested them in 2 hours after back in the day) We visited the Mini once again. Because of the broken windows, head/tail lights, violated hood, the cars bottom was one big complete hole. So save as much cars as You can. They have historic value, and will make so much people smile, and pop up some memories...
