A few years ago I tried making transparent wood and it kind of worked. The pieces that I made were somewhat okay, but I was never really happy with the result.
I finally decided to try it again though!

  • ok but why infuse wood witth plastic instead of just using the plastic itself if the goal is to replace glass. It doesn't really seem like you're saving any plastic doing this judging by how much is wasted during the proces.

  • The whole process is fun and really interesting to watch, but I just fail to see what's the point of it. I mean - use the acrylic right away if you want to replace glass for some reason. And I do not even start diving into the virtues of glass when compared to any sort of polymer.

  • Hydrogen peroxide is very similar to water, yet I dont recommend drinking hydrogen peroxide. 1 atom added to a molecule makes an entirely different molecule. Sodium Chloride is 1 atom away from Bleach as well, and we consume that daily. I dont consume Sodium Chlorite myself, however it is not toxic in the slightest, assuming you consume it in amounts similar to salt. Dont believe everything you read on the internet, as they say.

  • So you need wood, a hard to find resource(considering the price of 2x4s), and a bunch of chemicals to make plastic wood, rather than glass which needs plastics, silicone, lead, ect if reinforced or not..... I'm not seeing much energy/resource savings...
